Client Brief
One of the many features of Smart City Projects are smart metering solutions for water and electricity. The client wanted to market the technology based on unique animated characters called “Bots”. The “Botsworthy Campaign” was launched to show off the Pawabots (Smart Electricity Meter), Watabots (Smart Water Meter), Fightabot (Smart Lock), Botovision (Smart Security Camera) and some more.
The marketing team drew up some sketches and animations. We were tasked to come up with a commercially viable design to build an enclosure to house the PCB and related connectors while maintaining the “botsworthy” look and appeal.
The Design Complexity
The marketing team had made creative animations and it was possible that as the campaign progressed, the look and feel and even the size of the animations could change!!
All the bots were of different shapes and sizes and as such volume manufacturing would become very expensive.
The smart metering products had to be installed inside the house and accessible to the residents. As such, it was necessary to design mounting features with ease of installation & servicing and tamper-proofing.
The Solution
By isolating the electrical enclosure and the bot body, a lot of complex problems were resolved. We now had a Common mold design for the mounting brackets, bottom enclosure and top enclosure.
The bot body had to be unique but followed the same basic design features further reducing manufacturing costs!
The Result
The Pawabot & Watabot were successfully installed and tested in the Smart City Project and Volume manufacturing commenced subsequently.
